    After beating Albany on Monday for their first conference win of the season, the BU Bearcats are feeling confident about their play going forward.  Even so, their recent struggles, just two wins in their last seven, have caused some fans to forget that this same team won seven straight not too long ago, and now has ten wins on the season.  Tommy Dempsey says that criticism is unfair.

    Bearcats pleased with early conference start

    Despite losing 63-46 to Albany on Monday, the BU women are pleased with their early 2-2 start to America East play.  Their first four games have been a four point win over Maine, a two point loss to New Hampshire, a five point win over Hartford, and Monday's 17 point loss to Albany.   Albany, Hartford, New Hampshire, and Maine are currently 1-4 in the conference with BU in fifth.  So, the Bearcats are right in the thick of things early on in conference play.

    Binghamton men's basketball (10-9, 1-3 America East) used a 24-8 second-half run to pull away and then made 10-of-10 free throws in the final 1:16 to seal a 79-66 win over visiting Albany (14-6, 2-3 AE) Monday night in front of 3,434 fans at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.  The win snapped a string of 14 straight Great Danes wins in the head-to-head series and gave the Bearcats their first conference win of the season.

    Devils Crunch-ed again

    Louis Domingue stopped all 17 shots he faced as the Binghamton Devils were unable to score in a 3-0 loss to the host Syracuse Crunch on Monday afternoon at the War Memorial. After no scoring in the first period, Mitchell Stephens put the Crunch up on the power play early in the second period. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 39 of 42 in the loss and Domingue denied all 17 for the shutout win.

Senior guard Imani Watkins finished with a game-high 18 points. In the process, she stretched her career scoring total to 1,828 career points. She remains in third place all time in Binghamton program history and No. 14 in the America East Conference record book.

    The Binghamton Devils gave up four third-period goals in a 5-2 loss at Blue Cross Arena to the Rochester Americans on Friday night. After the Devils couldn’t convert on several great chances in the first period, Rochester took advantage of a two-man advantage to take a 1-0 lead. Rochester’s C.J. Smith took a pass across the top of the crease and beat goaltender Ken Appleby by the left leg pad for the one goal lead.

    The BU women lost to New Hampshire 63-61 on Wednesday, but the bigger stat discrepancy was rebounding.  UNH won the battle on the boards 49-34.  On the offensive end BU allowed UNH to grab 22 offensive rebounds.  Needless to say, that's a focus in practice going into Saturday's home game against Hartford.

The loss snapped the Bearcats' season-high, six-game winning streak. Senior guard Imani Watkins led the Bearcats with 20 points. It marked the fifth straight game she has reached the 20-point mark.

    Ben Thomson scored the lone goal for the Binghamton Devils as the Syracuse Crunch scored two third-period goals in a 4-1 victory in front of 3,673 fans at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday night. After no scoring in the opening period, Michael Bournival took a deflection off his face to put the Crunch up 1-0. The shot came from Jamie McBain at the point that was deflected and went off the mouth of Bournival and in for the 1-0 lead.

    The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are proud to announce Luis Rojas will return to the Southern Tier to serve as the team’s manager for the 2018 season. Rojas will be joined by pitching coach Frank Viola, hitting coach Valentino Pascucci, bench coach Luis Rivera, athletic trainer Bob Grimes and strength and conditioning coach Kory Wan.

    The New York State Sports Writers Association named Chenango Forks Running Back Jeremiah Allen Class B Player of the Year on Wednesday.  The All-State Football Teams were released for Classes B, C, and D.   Allen set a Chenango Forks record for rushing yards this season, amassing 2,282 yards and found the endzone 35 times.   The NYSSWA named 30 total players to the All-State teams with another 15 earning honorable mention.

    After eight years in the NFL Arthur Jones is calling it a career.  The Union-Endicott and Syracuse grad made the announcement on social media on Tuesday.   Jones was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2010, winning the Super Bowl with them during the 2012 season.  He also played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins.
