Hundreds of community members dropped by the Roberson Museum this weekend for the Southern Tier Orchid Society's annual Orchid Show.

Growers from New York and beyond came to the Show to display and sell their orchid plants, as well as compete to win awards for best plants at the event.

Meanwhile, guests were free to roam through the displays, being given scavenger hunts to aid their viewing experiences.

Carol Bales, president of the Southern Tier Orchid Society, says the large attendance is due in part to a growth in popularity for the plant.

"Orchids are becoming more popular because you can see them now in the stores, and so people are taking a bigger interest in them," Bales said. "So there are more people coming to these events to find out more about them and see some different kinds of orchids."

While the show may be complete, Bales encourages community members to join the society.
