Binghamton University introduced Mary Grimes as the women's basketball program's newest head coach on Friday afternoon.

"I think we're going to present an exciting brand of basketball and we're going to be fun to watch," Grimes said. "I've met the team already. They've got great personalities. They're very likable young women, so they're going to get a personal experience when they come to the women's basketball games and it's going to be awesome to watch fun and exciting."

Grimes says she's looking forward to the opportunity to be back in the American East conference after winning five conference championships with UAlbany as an assistant from 2010 to 2016 and most recently leading the Le Moyne Dolphins women's basketball program to a pair of regular season championships over the last two seasons.

"There's some familiarity here, being in America East before understanding that this is a top-notch institution and I've watched their games," Grimes said. "I've watched their games throughout the year. I've recruited a lot of the players that are on the team or at least seen them play. So I understood the lay of the land and where we could go from where they're at right now so it's an exciting time."

Grimes says she has been a heavy recruiter in the state of New York with an up-tempo game style and is looking forward to continuing that motto with the Bearcats.

"My motto is to own the thruway and get out there and get the brightest and the best of I-90," Grime said. "There's some here already on this roster, but that's going to be the thing that drives our women's basketball program."

As for the players they say they are excited now that the head coach vacancy is filled.

"I think there's definitely some relief, that that void of no coach is filled," said guard Jadyn Weltz. "So that's good for a start. And now I think we're all just really excited to start building those relationships with her and feeling that culture out a little bit and just getting to experience this next chapter together. So we're all excited."

Grimes continued to say that her familiarity with the roster along with her style of play is important, but she remains flexible in how she'll coach this group.

"I've watched a lot of the players that are on the team right now," Grimes said. "I'm still getting to know them, figuring out what's going to fit the system that best helps us win. I would like to play fast. I like to play up-tempo, but at the end of the day, you got to figure out what's going to help you win games. So if it's slowing it down in the half-court, we've got to do what we've got to do. So I think there's some talent. There's a lot of guards that that can score the basketball, and I'm very excited about that."
