100 Years Ago is brought to you by Broome Recycles.

100 years ago today, the memorial statue to Broome County’s veterans of the Spanish-American War is nearly completed, but will probably not be put in place until next summer. The statue will be placed near the approach to the Memorial Bridge, currently being built over the Chenango River to Riverside Drive.

Plans are being made for construction of a new church at Thorp and Edwards Street for the Syrian population in this area.

A dance will be held tomorrow night in the Roof Garden at the new Binghamton Elks Lodge clubhouse on Washington Street.

Finally, photographs of five Binghamton mayors are being added to the mayors’ gallery in the Common Council chamber. The gallery is now complete with portraits of every one of Binghamton’s mayors.

And that was the news 100 years ago.
