A Norwich man was arrested and charged Sunday after making threats to harm police officers and himself.

According to the Norwich Police Department, around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, the department received an emergency call about a male at Flanagan Field with a gun who had made comments about shooting police officers and then harming himself. When police arrived, the male fled into the surrounding wooded area.

Police cordoned off the area and began negotiating with the male. After an hour, 24-year-old Tyler Stanley Hotaling surrendered to police. He was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 2nd degree. Norwich Police say Hotaling was under the influence of methamphetamine and was later transported to a medical facility.

His court case is pending with Norwich City Court.
