Students at Windsor's Floyd L. Bell Elementary school are celebrating another successful year of their Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

The yearly event is inspired by a former Bell student who had childhood leukemia. Now, students continue to honor their legacy and help those going through the same; the money raised today goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, students partook in different events like Coin Week, where donating a specific type of change each day entered them into a raffle.

In total, the school raised $1,631.46.

Fifth grader and student council member Madison Nichols said, "I don't think we would get like six hundred dollars over the goal, but I did think we were going to reach the goal because a lot of kids like helping out and a lot of kids are like kind."

"I'm just really proud that everybody, like, brought in money to help donated," said Lucas Griffin, fellow student council member and fifth grader.

Over the past 16 years, almost $30,000 has been raised.
