Binghamton Rotary Club Honors Seven Binghamton Elementary Students
On Tuesday, May 14, the Binghamton Rotary Club honored seven Binghamton fifth-grade students as Students of the Year.
The guidelines for selecting each student included being models of cooperation or collaboration, going out of their way to assist others, and strong improvement in academics.
Each of the students teacher's recognized them for their contributions to their school and community. As a lot goes on during every school day, today's recognition served as a chance to honor students for all the work they do.
"I think it's awesome to see throughout the school day. I know I give a lot of directions and sometimes have to yell a lot, so it's hard to kind of stop and, you know, think kids for their hard work," Fifth-grade teacher at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School Sophie Shaffer said. "So being able to have an event like this where they're truly just being recognized for being the great kids they are, I think it's wonderful. And I think it's really important for kids to remember how important they are and how awesome they are."
