This past afternoon in Otsiningo Park, Veterans for Peace called back to the founding of mother's day.

The group presented a theatrical reading of historical writer Julia Ward Howe's writings on how Mother's Day should be a time of peace by a local actor.

Cecily O'Neil, an auxillary member of veterans for peace, said it is important to keep this original context in mind when thinking of the holiday.

"Each year we also get closer to the risk of possible nuclear destruction, climate destruction," O'Neil said. And we need to look at where we're going and put a change in our policies."

The next major event set for Veterans for Peace is the children's peace fair this coming Thursday from 9 to 11 AM at Horace Mann Elementary School.
