An Odyssey of the Mind team from Saint John the Evangelist School is advancing to the world finals in Iowa, making them the only team in Broome County to make it to the finals this year.

The team of first, third, and fifth graders, has been working since October on their short performance called opening night antics.

The performance depicts the opening night of a play where everything goes wrong.

Students were tasked with making all of the props and set pieces along with a full script to present in the competition.

The student's hard work paid off as they successfully placed in the state and regional tournaments to advance to the world finals, which start on May 21st.

"They're an amazing group. We know they're going to make us proud in Iowa. And we're just so glad to share them with all of you," said Co-Coach John Swierk.

Co-Coach Angela Wilson said, "We're very proud of them. They're a really fun, creative group of kids and they've just been a real special team to work with. John and I are really proud of them and we're very grateful and thankful for all the support from everybody. "
