The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers free assistance to people looking to start their own businesses. That includes everything from determining costs, to how much they have to sell, to how to market their product or idea.

"You want to open up your business, your partner is going, 'What are you talking about?' 'Oh, and by the way, I have to spend 1500 dollars to get assistance,'" regional director of the Binghamton SBDC Rochelle Layman explained about the importance of their services being free. "It allows them to really get out there to form a strong business foundation before they're spending money. The second is that people, you know, generally cannot afford to go elsewhere. So instead of taking their money and paying for a consultant, they can put their money towards the business."

The SBDC says as a state and federally-funded organization, the work they can do is limited, but this $1,000 will allow them to step outside of what they're limited to.

They're located at the Koffman Incubator. You can learn more about their services and find resources here.
