10 years ago, the Binghamton University men's tennis team won their tenth America East Championship. The next nine years to follow, the once-best program at BU, struggled and two years ago, only won a single match over its 22-game schedule. Well this year, all of that was thrown out the window.

"Super grateful for the work that President [Harvey] Stenger and AD [Eugene] Marshall did in finding us a home," said head coach Nick Zieziula. "It's a much better geographic fit for us being in the Northeast Conference and also grateful to Noreen and Ron and all the staff at at the NEC for welcoming us in and putting on a great tournament over the weekend."

The Bearcats were members of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) after the America East dropped tennis from its list of sports.

In the Bearcats' first season as a member of the Northeast Conference, BU won the league regular season title and on Sunday, won the conference championship, punching a ticket to the NCAA tournament. BU went 16-9 this season and 7-1 in conference play, winning their playoff matches 4-0 [against Stonehill], 4-1 [against Le Moyne] and 4-1 [against Saint Francis] to secure a spot in the National Tournament.

Coach Nick Zieziula says the program's history made this triumph even sweeter.

"To be able to get back to that [success], the number of texts I got yesterday from alumni and staff, supporting us pretty much everywhere we play, somebody pops up from the past, an alum, and supports us and cheers us during matches and the guys on the team know that and they feel that," Zieziula said. "And so to be able to continue to be a part of building that success is a lot of fun and feels great."

The Bearcats will find out their first-round opponent on Monday, April 29th with their first-round match taking place on Friday, May 3rd. For more on this weekend's championship win, go here.
