Binghamton University Hosts U.S. Launch of 1MREADY Campaign to Battle Climate Change
Binghamton University launches the "1MREADY" campaign, targeting climate change and action.
Student ambassadors with the Kaschak Institute for Social Justice at BU were joined by the campaign founder, Natalie Isaacs.
"We're in a Women's movement out of Australia and what Im ready bing is all about is taking our learnings from what we do in Australia to cut carbon emissions, annual activities and Binghamton University have made it their own," said Isaacs.
2023 was the hottest year recorded since 1850 and 17% of carbon emissions come from households.
With the climate crisis becoming increasingly prevalent, the movement aims to show people what they can do to affect the current path of climate change, right at home.
"What we're launching today is a carbon challenge where we've got 39 activities about how you live, the things that you do in your life to cut carbon," says Isaacs.
Isaacs said in her 14 years of activism, she feels expanding her climate action movement to the U.S. especially Binghamton, can make all the difference to the future.
It starts at Binghamton University with more than 20 student ambassadors and hopefully 2,000 more students.
"It's an incredible thing to get people to just come together and make this change. Natalie really has shown that it's possible to have individual actions come into this collective, incredible movement," says Isabel Willson, a Graduate Student Assistant from Kaschak Institute at BU.
Isaacs says she's glad to be able to expand her movement to another country.
"We're meant to be able to give it over to somebody else and take all the learnings because climate change, climate action needs all of us," said Isaacs.
