The Broome County Sheriff's Office says a Broome County man is facing several charges after a domestic dispute and violating an order of protection.

According to the office, deputies met with a domestic violence victim who claimed she had left her home after a physical dispute with Timothy D. Backes in the Town of Colesville. An active order of protection was in place and Backes had a previous conviction for Criminal Contempt in the 2nd degree, violating an order of protection.

Backes was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree (Physical Contact w/Order of Protection)
  • Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree (Prior Conviction Within 5 Years)
  • Aggravated Family Offense
  • Harassment in the 2nd degree

He was arraigned and taken to the Broome County Correctional Facility. The office says later that evening, Backes attempted to contact the woman again, violating the order of protection again. Backes was then additionally charged with:

  • Criminal Contempt in the 1st degree (Prior Conviction Within 5 Years)
  • Aggravated Family Offense
