Joseph Swansbrough, 34, of Ithaca, was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison on Wednesday for enticing and coercing a minor to commit sex acts with him.

Swansbrough began exchanging sexually explicit messages online with an undercover officer posing as a 10-year-old from Broome County between September and October 2001.

He admitted to traveling from his Tioga County home to meet up with the minor on October 12, 2021. He was arrested after arriving at the prearranged location. He had with him candy that he promised the child.

A United States District Judge in Syracuse also sentenced Swansbrough to a 25-year term of post-release supervision. Swansbrough will also have to register as a sex offender.
