100 years ago today, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has issued an appeal to the citizens of Broome County for contributions to a $50,000 fund to help people impacted by the earthquakes, fires and tidal waves in Japan.

Charles Keck, the sculptor from New York City who is creating the bronze monument to George F. Johnson, was in Binghamton yesterday. He was here to inspect the site in Recreation Park where the monument will be placed. The monument is scheduled to dedicated next month.

Finally, plans are being made for the Great Binghamton Industrial Exposition later this month. A special feature at the exposition will be a pageant depicting the early history of Broome County.

And that was the news 100 years ago.
