100 years ago today, the Endicott Johnson Corporation is working around the clock to send 16,000 pairs of shoes to Japan. This is part of a relief effort following the catastrophic earthquake, fires and flooding over the last week.

Binghamton Police arrested a total of nearly 300 people during August. Half of those arrests were for public intoxication.

A site is being considered on the west side for construction of a new junior high school. The plan is to locate the school near Recreation Park so the park grounds can be used for athletic events.

Finally, similar to another case reported recently, a man received serious burns yesterday when he was filling the tank of his car from a gasoline pump. A witness said that there was an explosion when the driver lit a match to check the contents of his gas tank.
