BU's Brianna Roberts Named America East Rookie of the Year, Eight Bearcats Honored
The America East Softball Awards were released today and freshman Brianna Roberts was the big winner for Binghamton University.
Roberts was named America East Rookie of the Year after posting the third-best ERA in the league at 2.53 while striking out 100 batters, good enough for fifth. Yesterday, Roberts praised her teammates and seniors for helping her out as a player and person.
"Being able to come in behind them and just learn from some of the best pitchers in the conference has been really amazing and they've just taken us under their wings, giving us all tips and tricks, right, for the freshmen to learn sort of the ropes here," Roberts said. "But they've been super helpful and amazing role models to look up to this whole year."
Additionally, Utility Lindsey Walter, second baseman Alli Richmond, and third baseman Brianna Santos were First Team All-Conference picks. Santos was third in the league in batting average at .362 while posting an OPS of .966, also third in the AE. Richmond was seventh in the conference with 21 total bases in AE games. Walter did it all for BU, leading the conference in batting average at .425 with the league's sixth-best OPS at .918. On top of her duties at the plate, Walter posted an ERA of 2.49 in 45 innings pitched.
Five Bearcats were tabbed as second-team picks as Sophia Pappas, Allison L'Amoraux, Roberts, Akira Kopec, and Laney Harbaugh all made the squad. Kopec and Roberts each made the All-Rookie team as well.
