100 Years Ago is brought to you by the Kilmer Mansion.

100 years ago today, a memorial statue of Daniel S. Dickinson, Broome County’s greatest statesman, has been designed by one of New York City’s most prominent sculptors. A scale model was made and now the full-size eight-foot model is being produced. It is hoped to have the completed statue by September for a dedication ceremony on Dickinson’s birthday.

Six new Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been ordered for the use of the Binghamton Police Department in catching speeders on the city streets this summer.

Now that the snow and ice is gone, several city streets are badly in need of repaving. One of the worst areas is Court Street near the Tompkins Street bridge.

Finally, Johnson City Police caught several young men on Avenue D yesterday, “rolling the dice” in a crap game. Two of the men were arrested but several others got away.

And that was the news 100 years ago.
