The "Journal of the Chenango County Historical Society" is in its 11th year. It was started in 2012 as a way to further the society's mission, leading and supporting the advancement of research, education and enjoyment of the county.

"I think in some of the first editions, there was more obvious history," said Joe Fryc, the operations manager. "But now we're really getting into those hidden gems of the county that need to be uncovered.”

He says they accept stories about anything related to the county, from specific people to places to events. But, if you're looking for some inspiration, Director Jennifer Moquin adds that there are some topics they're eager to cover.

“Folks are particularly interested in stories related to military history. To prominent women within the community prohibition stories and especially unique perspectives on faith, such as the Mormon community and the Jewish faith.”

The Society encourages anyone interested to submit their idea. They note anyone can be an author and the historian's office can help with research.

“I'm always surprised at just the depth of the history in the county," explains Fryc. "The amount of hidden stories you wouldn't really think about in terms of people doing incredible things locally.”

Submissions are due by early March and copies will be available in time for Path Through History weekend in June.
