We're getting closer and closer to championship season, the time of year when high school sports move from games you'd like to win to games you have to win, and the first sport to kick off the season has been golf for both Class A and Class B.

In Class A, the Union-Endicott Tigers took home first place, shooting 409 and three strokes ahead of their friends across the Susquehanna as Vestal placed second while Corning finished in the bronze spot with a total of 417. The Maine-Endwell Spartans we're just three strokes behind them in fifth while Elmira rounded out the top five. Ithaca, Horseheads, and Binghamton finished 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively.

On the individual side, U-E's Dante Bertoni was the top golfer and sectional champion, shooting 69, three strokes behind him was Nashant Lahiri from Corning. Ithaca's J.T. Thomforde earned bronze, shooting 73. Justin Alvord from Vestal shot a 75, good enough for fourth while U-E's Drew Karedes shot a 78.

On the Class B side, Seton shot 466 and won the sectional championship by 13 strokes. Norwich came behind them with a 479 at second while Windsor shot 532 for third and Owego shot a 537.

Seton's Evan Wenzinger shot the best round out of everybody with an 80 while his teammate, Joseph Tiderencel was right behind him with an 84. The Purple Tornado's Braden Reid rounded out the top three with a round of 89. A pair of Owego Indians finished out the top five as Patrick Tammariello and Peyton Farrell each shot 92's to tie for fifth.

Both Championships were held at Soaring Eagles in Horseheads.
