A surge in COVID-19 cases has wreaked havoc on schedules in various sports among college and professional teams. One of the most heavily impacted sports has been college basketball and we’re now seeing that firsthand here in Binghamton.

The Binghamton University Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams have each had games effected by COVID-19 protocols.

After having their contest last week against Niagara cancelled, the Bearcats Men’s game against Elmira scheduled for Wednesday has also been cancelled. They have not played since their contest against Oneonta on December 11th. Now they are not scheduled to play again until January 2nd where they are slated to host the University of Massachusetts Lowell in their America East Opener at 2pm.

On the Women’s side their America East opener Thursday at the Events Center against UMBC has been postponed along with their road game on January 2nd at UMass Lowell due to COVID protocols. Since those contests are conference matchups, they will work to reschedule them. There are no dates for those make ups yet. The Bearcats Women’s team last played on December 21st in the Florida International Classic Tournament where they had one of their two games in that tournament cancelled due to COVID-19. Their next scheduled game is now January 5th as they’ll host Albany at 7pm.
