Lifetime saxophone player and teacher Al Hamme is the latest addition on the Broome County Wall of Fame at the Forum Theatre.

Family and friends unveiled the star on Wednesday while an emotional Hamme watched.

"I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I've got a lot of friends here that I didn't expect to see and I never expected to get one of these, so that's a surprise, too," says Hamme.

Hamme moved to the area in 1961 and founded the jazz program at Binghamton University in 1964. He directed that program for 33 years. Hamme founded his own business, Music Unlimited, in 1974, providing music services like providing orchestras for local play performances and booking bands.

Hamme has performed with the orchestras of Les Elgart, Sammy Kaye, Jimmy Dorsey, Guy Lombardo, Danny D'Imperio's Big Band Bloviation, and is a founding member of the Presbybop Quartet.

He's also recorded music with Slam Stewart, Phil Woods, Tom harrell, Peter Appleyard, Richard Wyands, Bucky Pizzarelli, Tony Marino, Mike Holober, Sherrie Maricle, Ann Chamberlain, Steve Gilmore, Steve Brown, Tom Whaley, Bill Carter, Fred Hersch, Jeff Stockham, Ron Vincent, Gene Bertoncini, and is frequently on NPR with Slam Stewart and Frank Wess.

You can still see Hamme playing his saxophone with the Mason Warrington Orchestra and at the Schorr Firehouse Stage.
