Vestal, N.Y. - Binghamton University Women's lacrosse team opens their 2019 season in the Carrier Dome against No. 15 ranked Syracuse. Unfortunately history doesn't favor the Bearcats as the Orange has a 6-0 all time record against Binghamton, defeating them 16-5 in 2017.

However, something that does favor Binghamton is the fact that their coming off a historic season where they grabbed the program's first-ever postseason berth. The Bearcats finished with a 5-2 league record and in third place in the America East.

Bearcats head coach Stephanie Allen expressed the importance of tough non-conference games and how in those games, growth and success are found.

"Tough non-conference games [like Syracuse] are bigger lessons and important components to moving forward this season and really being at our strongest" said Allen.

"In these close games it's important for our team to reflect on what we can learn from those specific moments on the field."

Some big shoes will need to be desperately filled after the Bearcats graduated eleven seniors, but now welcome eight freshman.

"We have freshman in all areas of the field, defense, midfield and attack and we expect them to get significant time this season" said Allen.

"The freshman bring a great fresh energy to the field. A very competitive group that didn't shy away from proving what they're capable of doing as lacrosse players."

Syracuse hosts Binghamton at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra and broadcasted on WJPZ 89.1FM.
