The Bearcats joined women's basketball teams nationwide hosting their Play4Kay game in honor of the late NC State coach, Kay Yow. Yow passed away following her third bout of her 22 year cancer battle. Both teams and coaching staffs wore pink accents in honor of Coach Yow, and head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord recognized local cancer survivors during halftime of Saturday's game against University of New Hampshire.

In her 38 years as a head coach, Yow was one of six Division I women's basketball coaches to reach 700 career wins, with 20 of 27 trips to the NCAA Tournaments. She was also only the third women’s basketball coach in NCAA Division I history to coach 1,000 games with one program.

Each point the Bearcats earned in their game against UNH earned a $5 donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, so $265 was raised during Saturday's game alone. Fans, family, and friends can pledge a donation to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for every free throw the Bearcats make in February to continue raising money for scientific cancer research and treatments for those affected.
