Windsor Central High School Hosts Oldest Wrestling Tournament in New York State
Thirty-four teams from three states gathered at Windsor Central High School for the wrestling program's 62nd Annual Windsor Christmas Wrestling tournament. The historic tournament was created after a state tournament was eliminated in the 1950s.
"It's an honor to host this event," said Windsor head wrestling coach Jeffrey Nolan. "As a coach, I feel as though I'm the caretaker of this event."
The tournament began on Thursday with two sessions and had the final in each weight class on Friday evening. Last year's tournament featured four State Champions and 16 total state place winners.
"It can be really really tough. You have to win a lot of tough matches to get through," said Nolan. "It really prepares them for the end of the season. That's our goal, to do well at the end of the season."
