For the last six Fridays, the American Legion in Whitney Point has hosted fish fry dinners to commemorate the season of Lent.
With Easter on Sunday, this Friday was the last one.
"All the monies that we collect from these are used to support programs for the veterans," said organizer for the dinners, Vivian Gardener.
Dozens of veterans and their families came out to enjoy the meal put on annually by volunteers at the Legion.
"We try to get here every Friday during Lent," said Mickey Pixley of the Town of Triangle.
"It's a great post and I've belonged here for a number of years now."
The volunteers who made the meal worked since noon to prepare dinners for 150 people.
"I made the tartar sauce and Cheryl who's our cook, she does the fish,
she made the macaroni and cheese, and then we all bring desserts. There's about six of us that make desserts to give out to everyone and everyone enjoys that a lot," said Gardener.
A meal prepared by few but enjoyed by many.
"The ladies, they work quite hard to pull this off and they work hard year after year and that shows by the results," said Commander of the Legion, Leon Skinner.
Results that brought this community together during the Easter season.
