Steve May is preparing to take the reins in Village Hall in Owego. May defeated incumbent Mayor Kevin Millar Monday night.
May says his first priority is to update the village's auditing. He says the most current audit is for 2012. Millar says he is most proud of the rebuilding effort he has led since taking office in 2012. May's Taxpayers First party also claimed all three seats on the Village Board.
"We need to get all our accounting up to date. There's programs we can go to the state for, feasibility studies, things of that nature. In order to have those you need to have your financials in order," said May.
"People think that rebuilding is completely over but there is still a lot to be done. I have on my desk right now a stack of public works things to sign to get reimbursed from FEMA," said Millar.
Millar says the Village's recovery from the flood of 2011 is about 90 percent complete. May will take office during the Village Board meeting on Monday, April 4th.
