After-school activities were up for discussion at the expanded learning network of the Southern Tier 2016 Legislative Breakfast, hosted by Broome-Tioga Boces.

Johnson City Superintendant Mary Kay Roland and many others spoke about the importance of after school programs.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo says these programs offer students the critical extra time they need to help them thrive.

"Kids are under a lot of pressure from many different angles these days and this gives them a chance to either pUrsue a hobby or do more studies in an area they may need more time in," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

Lupardo and the Committee of Children and Families are currently negotiating with the governor and those in the senate. They're hoping to get the resources to advance the after school programs.
