Students get an Up-Close Look at Engineering
On Friday, more than 100 eighth grade students from eight schools in Broome and Tioga County got an up-close look at engineering at Lockheed Martin in Owego.
It was all part of the corporation's Engineers Day.
Students got first-hand experience in the field with activities like an egg-drop challenge, Lego building, and a helicopter simulation.
They even got a tour of Lockheed's MH-60 hangar and learned about the construction of aircraft.
Lockheed Martin professionals said the event is to inspire students who may wish to become engineers in the future. They gave students some advice about working hard to obtain that goal.
"Take advantage of courses that can be provided to you to give you a strong foundation in engineering skills like science, technology, engineering, and math," said Dan Crimmins, engineering manager Lockheed Martin.
Another group of eighth graders from the Broome County area will take part in an Engineer's Day event at Lockheed in April.
