Man Arrested for Stealing from Parked Cars in Unadilla

By FOX 40 Staff.
A Unadilla man has been arrested for multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including grand larceny and DWI, after he was reported stealing from cars.
Early Thursday morning, New York State Police arrested Jason L. Rude, 40, for two felony counts of grand larceny, misdemeanors driving while intoxicated, petit larceny and two counts of attempted identity theft.
The arrest occurred after troopers responded to a report of a man going through a parked vehicle outside a home on County Route 1 in the Town of Unadilla. Police determined that Rude had stolen two wallets and other items from parked vehicles in the area. He also tried to use one of the stolen bank cards to withdraw cash from an ATM but was not successful.
Troopers approached his vehicle after he pulled into the parking lot of the Speedway gas station on State Route 8. Rude was observed sitting in the driver seat with one of the stolen wallets in plain view just behind the passenger seat. An investigation also determined that he was driving while intoxicated.
When he was arrested troopers found the other stolen wallet in his pocket. Rude was processed at SP Sidney and refused to provide a breath sample. Rude was arraigned in the Town of Unadilla court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond.
His next court date in the Town of Unadilla is on March 1, 2016.
