Wednesday Marks The Start of Lenten Season
For many people across the world, Wednesday marked the beginning of the Lenten season.
Here in the Southern Tier, The Broome County Council of Churches held Ash Wednesday services at the Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a 40 day period of sacrifice and repentance leading up to Easter. But some Christians say they choose to observe in different ways.
Holy Nativity Lutheran Church President, Joan Englehart said, "This is a time of reflection. I don't use it as a time to give up something. I hope that I can live a life that is a life for Christ and it's just a time to reflect on my past and my future."
The Holy Nativity Lutheran Church will continue to host weekly Lenten services at noon every Wednesday until Easter .
