Three local groups who help others got a helping hand themselves Tuesday.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Broome and Binghamton as well as the Impact Project each received $1,000 dollars Tuesday. The Greater Binghamton New Car Dealers Association made the donations to kick off it's car show.

The Impact Project helps low-income families and those with disabilities repair and rehabilitate their homes.

"We can re-divert our attention. Immediately we have x,y,z dollars, in this case $1,000, and we can focus our attention to helping a family rather than spending time to get the money, then go to help the family. We can immediately focus on the families we want to help," said Jim Willard, Director of the Impact Project.

Willard says the $1,000 donation can buy a furnace or heating system for a home. It can also provide a good amount of the material for a new roof for a home.
