Rodriguez is key to Bearcats success

The Binghamton University Bearcats won their second consecutive game on Wednesday night in a 66-57 win over UMBC. Leading the way was the team's leading scorer Willie Rodriguez who put up 24 points and 8 rebounds.
Last week against Vermont Rodriguez scored ten points but all of those came in the second half. After that loss, Tommy Dempsey talked about his team's success hinging largely on getting Rodriguez going early in the game and at times he plays too laid back.
That wasn't the case on Wednesday as Rodriguez put up ten points in the first half before finishing with a game-high 24.
"I think it's more of a mental thing," Rodriguez said. "I just got to come out, stop being so passive and stop trying to let the game come to me and I just have to play basketball."
"His unselfishness... that stuff is great but enough of that. You want to be the money maker? You gotta go, you gotta go to work every night because that's what this team needs from him," Dempsey said. "When he plays like that and Marlon shoots the ball like he did tonight we have that good- the defense is going to be there for us but when we shoot the ball from the perimeter and Willie is in attack mode that gives us a chance to play really good basketball. It gets frustrating at times when he's not and he knows that. I'm not- we talked about it."
BU travels to Maine on Saturday.
