Broome County is driving convenience to the eastern parts of the region.
On Monday, officials announced the opening of a Mobile DMV service inside the Eastern Broome Senior Center in Harpursville. The unit will provide services including processing licenses and registration. Some functions, such as Enhanced Driver Licenses, CDL Exams and processing Enforcement transactions, will still need to be done at the County DMV offices.
Officials say the mobile service is all about saving time and money for residents in the rural area.
“We noticed that there were a lot of transactions from the Eastern end of the county that were being done by mail, over the internet, or people going to Deposit or Sidney. We have to compete with that. And by bringing it locally; at convenient hours, a convenient location, we want to recapture some of that. And 12 percent of the revenue stays right here in Broome County,” said Broome County Clerk Richard Blythe.
Officials say Broome County could bring in $36,000 in additional revenue once these mobile offices are fully utilized. The Harpursville Mobile DMV will be open Mondays from 10 am to 3 pm. Also, starting this week, another unit will be open during the same hours on Thursdays at the Windsor Town Hall.
Mobile services are also available Tuesdays from 10 am - 3 pm in Conklin, and Wednesdays and Fridays at that time in Whitney Point. For a complete list of locations and times, visit www.gobroomecounty.com/dmv.
