A traffic stop has led to the arrest of a Binghamton man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in a motel room.

Devon Butler, 38, is accused of punching and choking his girlfriend in the Motel 6 on Old Front St in the Town of Dickinson. Around 4:40 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a call of a domestic dispute at the motel to find a female who had been the victim of an assault.

Authorities claim that after the alleged assault, the victim was able open the room’s door and scream for help before being struck multiple times. Devon then fled in the victim’s car. Shortly after police arrived at the scene, Devon was involved in an accident in Binghamton. He fled the scene and was unable to be located.

Around 11:30 p.m. that night, Devon was recognized during a traffic stop in the Town of Dickinson, despite giving a false name, and taken into custody.

Devon is being charged with Assault, Criminal obstruction of breathing, and False Personation. He was arraigned before the Town of Dickinson Judge and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility with no bail.
