A recent Siena College Poll reports 57 percent of New Yorkers would call themselves dog people, while only 17 percent prefer cats.

Revealing owners spare no expense when it comes to their furry friends, the poll finds owners spend between $500-$1000 per year on food, vet visits, medicine, grooming, treats, and toys.

To acquire a pet, owners prefer a private person or a shelter, but some purchase them from breeders, pet stores, or have been themselves adopted by their pet.
