The children and staff of The Discovery Center in Binghamton are hosting a fun run for one of their own.

Maddie Shaw is an 11-year-girl who used to attend the after school

program here.

She is currently fighting against cancer for the second time in her life.

"She was diagnosed with cancer in her hip and this year we found out that she was able to beat off the cancer in her hip but it came back in her lungs," said School Age Educator at the center, Amanda Florance.

Maddie's friends at the center say Maddie is a great girl and they miss her a lot.

"She was a very nice person and she always had a smile on her face," said Tess Zuber.

The run will take place at The Story Garden, a unique feature of the

center, and continue up through the hiking trails of the Ross Park Zoo.

Proceeds from the run will go to support Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation.
