Binghamton University's homecoming welcomed many prominent alumni, including the first one to have a seat in congress.


Congressman Hakeem Jeffries spoke to the College of Community and Public Affairs for their 20th anniversary.


His speech motivated students to step up and make a difference.

"It's not a straight line to success. You're going to encounter difficulty, obstacles, failure. And the key is, are you willing to persevere through that to get to a place where you can make a difference to others? And that's what's important," said (D) U.S. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.


Jeffries graduated from BU in 1992 and now represents New York's 8th Congressional District.
