Over $20,000 has been raised to help a Broome County Sheriff's Deputy who has a serious illness.

Deputy Steve Blackman became ill in January, the diagnosis was stage 3 Hogdkin's Lymphoma.

Today, an event at Klumpp Park in Windsor helped him raise money.

Blackman was known as a cop who cared for children. Now he's showing his gratitude to those who cared for him.

Blackman says, "I couldn't go through what I'm going through without my friends, family, coworkers. And it's been amazing the amount of strangers, people that don't even know me, that have shown so much support for me, I couldn't ever repay them."

The funds raised will help Blackman with his medical and travel expenses. A GoFundMe account has also been set up for him as well.
