Conforto called up to big leagues
"Free Conforto" has been the mantra of many New York Mets fans over the last several weeks, pleading with the organization to call up former first round draft pick Michael Conforto. Those fans can now relax and watch as the, now former, B-Mets outfielder is set to make his big league debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Conforto hit .312/.396/.503 with 5 HR and 26 RBI in 45 games with the Binghamton Mets before his call up. Despite those impressive numbers, his final appearance with Binghamton came in an 0-5 performance in Trenton on Thursday.
The Mets made the move as Michael Cuddyer's continued knee problems necessitated his move to the disabled list.
With the Mets offense struggling mightily, Conforto is expected by many fans to be a cure-all solution. However, Manager Terry Collins told Conforto to "not be a savior, just be Michael Conforto."
He will bat 7th and play left field as the Mets host the Dodgers at 7:05.
