A golf tournament is commemorating the life of a local cartoonist.

Saturday, Mom's House held their 8th annual Johnny Hart Memorial Golf Tournament at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin.

Johnny Hart was known for his comic strips... a pretty popular on was "B.C."

Mom's House is a non-profit child care center that cares for children of low-income parents enrolled in school full-time.

Before the time of his passing, Hart was an honorary chairman of Mom's House.

"Johnny Hart was so charitable to this whole community and to Mom's House. And when he passed we asked the family if it would be okay if we did a Johnny Hart Memorial Golf Tournament. And it's been a wonderful event each year," said Office Manager at Mom's House Diane Avery.

One of the tournament's top-selling raffle prizes was one of Hart's comic strips. Today's event raised more than $3,000 and proceeds will go towards the Mom's House organization.
