Ynoa knows no bounds in brilliant effort

ERIE, PA – Gabriel Ynoa threw the fourth solo nine-inning one-hitter in Binghamton Mets history and guided his club to a 5-0 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park. Ynoa struck out six, walked no one and faced just two over the minimum in his second straight complete game. Harold Castro’s double in the third was the only blemish on Ynoa’s career night.
Ynoa opened his sparkling performance by retiring the first eight batters he faced. Castro ended the stretch by ripping a two-out double off the right-field wall. Ynoa shook off the drive and retired Wynton Bernard with a ground out to end the scoreless inning.
The right-hander burned through the next six scoreless innings, retiring 12 straight SeaWolves at one point. Jason Krizan was the only Erie batter to reach base during the stretch, getting aboard on a fielding error by Gavin Cecchini in the seventh.
After throwing a perfect eighth, Ynoa returned for the ninth. He induced Castro to ground out to short before coaxing a fly out from Bernard. The righty put his name into the B-Mets record books by getting Alberto Gonzalez to ground out to first.
The B-Mets backed Ynoa with early offense against Austin Kubitza. For the first time in nine games, the B-Mets pushed a run across in their first turn at the plate. After singles by Cecchini and LJ Mazzilli to open the game, Brock Peterson lined an RBI single to left, putting Binghamton on the board.
Binghamton kept the offense rolling in the second as Aderlin Rodriguez followed Josh Rodriguez’s leadoff single with a two-run homer, clobbering Kubitza’s 1-2 pitch off the arena for his eighth blast of the season. Michael Conforto capped a two-out rally later in the inning by lining a two-run single to left.
Ynoa (5-5) needed 103 pitches to post his third career shutout. He never allowed a SeaWolf to get past second and closed the game by holding the SeaWolves hitless in their final 20 at-bats. Kubitza (5-6) was touched for five runs on nine hits over four innings in the loss.
The B-Mets (40-38) conclude their final regular season visit to Jerry Uht Park in 2015 on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Luis Cessa takes the mound against LHP Josh Turley.
