Former Binghamton Met and 2014 Eastern League Champion Darrell Ceciliani received a late night phone call that every ballplayer dreams of hearing: "Son, you're headed to the big leagues."

Ceciliani was recalled by the New York Mets late Monday night to join the team for Tuesday's game in Queens against the Cardinals. As a result, another former Binghamton Met, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, has been Designated for Assignment.

Nieuwenhuis entered the season out of options, so to be sent down he would first have to clear waivers, which is the case now. After a torrid spring, Nieuwenhuis went just 3 for 38 this year off the Mets bench prompting the DFA.

Ceciliani hit .336 with five home runs and 17 RBI with six stolen bases in 37 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this season. He will wear #1 in the big leagues. However, he will not be in Tuesday's starting lineup.
