Chenango Valley High School hosts the Special Olympics.

Sunday, the 2015 Regional Special Olympics took place at the school featuring 16 teams from around the Southern Tier, including

Vestal, Binghamton, BOCES and Broome Developmental Center, who came to compete in a variety of track and field events.

Events included the 1,500 meter run, shot put, the long jump and the turbo javelin.

The winners of today's Olympic activities were awarded medals and ribbons.

Competitors say although the prizes are nice, participating in the Olympics mean more than achieving a medal.

"I'm here with all my friends and im compting against them you know. It really doesnt matter what place you come in you know we're here to have a good time ," said Apalachin participant Delacy Tompkins.

"To see their smiles when they compete, and compete successfully, thats how I get paid," said area coordinator of Special Olympics John Crosby.

This is the 44th year this event has been put on in Area 14.
