A former Broome County Sheriff has died. John Andrews, who served two terms as Sheriff in the 1970s has passed away at the age of 84.


According to his obituary Andrews hired the first women deputies, set up a mobile radio communications system, and developed the largest inmate work release program in upstate New York. A celebration of his life and burial mass will be held Saturday, May 2 at Our Lady of Sorrows, 801 Main St., Vestal, NY at Noon.
