A Chenango County man will spend the next 5 years behind bars after pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter.
In March, 30-year-old Kyle Whitfield admitted to stabbing James Button Jr. to death in Whitfield's Smithville home.
Today, according to Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride, Whitfield who faced a maximum 25 year sentence received the minimum 5 years in prison with 5 years post release supervision.
McBride says the reason Whitfield received the minimum is based on the facts and circumstances of the case he may have had a viable self defense claim.
According to the district attorney, Whitfield will be held in the Chenango County Jail.
