Bookkeeper Sentenced for Stealing from Company
A woman who stole more than $50,000 from a local company will spend the next six months in jail.
49-year-old Mary Ellen Schilling was sentenced to that term and five years of probation Monday after pleading guilty to grand larceny in the third degree in January.
She stole the money while she was a bookkeeper at Oral Surgery Associations of the Southern Tier from May, 2008 to October, 2013. Schilling had faced a term as long as seven years in state prison but was able to pay restitution of over $164,000 - resulting in the lesser sentence.
