HERSHEY, P.A. – The Binghamton Senators fell 3-2 to the Hershey Bears and officially handed over the East Division Champions title Friday night to their host.

The first period was a back and forth of shots between the B-Sens and Bears and was seemingly coming to a 0-0 end before Chris Wideman put away the first goal with only .02 seconds remaining. After initially being sent to the box on a slashing call, Wideman exited to find a long pass from Aaron Johnson and put his 19th goal of the season away over Bears goaltender Pheonix Copley. The B-Sens took the 1-0 lead to the locker room despite being outshot 15-10.

Neither team managed to score during the second period though the B-Sens took the lead in shot with 17-10 over the Bears. The Hershey Bears made a comeback in the third period with three goals over 3:59. The first goal came from Nate Schmidt at 7:28 followed by Chris Conner and then Casey Wellman with former B-Sen Jim O’Brien picking up an assist on each goal. Alex Guptill cut the host’s led to 3-2 with 11 seconds remaining, but it was not enough to give Binghamton the win.

Scott Greenham stopped 36 shots faced in the losing effort while Copley had 42 saves in his 16th win of the season.

Binghamton return home Saturday to host the Rochester Americans at 7:05p.m. in the final game of the season.
