A final good bye Tuesday to former Town of Union Supervisor Jack Cheevers who passed away last week at the age of 79.

His funeral was held at Holy Family Church in Endicott. Cheevers served as Town of Union Supervisor for five terms and was former Chairman of the Broome County Democratic party in 1982. Those who remembered him said he made a lasting impression on the people he came in contact with.

I was thinking that we need more people like Jack Cheevers to get into public life. He was a big influence on me. I always had a lot of ideas whenever I saw him and he always wanted to challenge me about one thing or another that we were doing at the state," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.

"He had so much belief in his constituents that he couldn't do anything that he felt would short them. That's the kind of guy that he was both personally, politically, and professionally," said Broome County Chairman Jim Testani.

In 2002, he attempted to run for New York State Governor but dropped out before the primary.
