County Officials Prepare Emergency Disaster Government Continuity Plan

Broome County officials want to make sure they can still function in the event of an emergency.
County Executive Debbie Preston is working with disaster preparedness officials to establish the Continuity of Operations/Continuity of Government Plan or Coop/Cog.
The plan will allow for the county to maintain operations within the county's services departments when disaster strikes.
The plan outlines things like order of succession and secondary locations for the county's operations.
County Executive Debbie Preston said, "We all know that we've seen historic floods throughout the last 10-15 years in Broome County and during those times of disaster we don't have time to figure out where to move our services. We need to spring into action and we need to start helping people right away."
The Department of Homeland Security is funding the grant for Coop/Cog which is approximately $46,000. Preston says she hopes the new plan is in place this summer.
